Micro-Enterprise Loans

Micro-loans are another example of leverage – achieving the most good for the least expenditure in people time and money. A little bit of training, a small cash loan and some mentoring and supervision can raise a person from subsistence to the average annual income for a Vietnamese individual. The annual per capita income in Vietnam is around $400 per year. Loans typically range from $50 to $300 depending upon the business to be launched.

Businesses funded in the past include raising flowers, breeding ducks, feeding out piglets for market, street side restaurants, mobile drink carts, childcare centers, tailoring and hand-craft production for sale in the markets and shops around tourist areas.

UniReach staff has experience in Micro-enterprise loan projects in and around Da Nang. In one such program, every penny of every loan (totaling $30,000) was repaid, including two loans made to the same woman. A flood wiped out her first crop of flowers. She received a second loan, replanted and paid back both loans in full from the proceeds of her garden.

UniReach is currently seeking partners interested in micro-enterprise loan programs. As partnerships are formed new micro-loan programs will be launched. The need is great and the benefit to the recipients immense.
